Lew Shepherd started as a computer hobbyist in the 80's. Back then,
only software on large black floppies were available, the screen only had one
color, and only one application could be run at a time. A meg of RAM was
$200, and a 40 Meg Hard drive was $1000. Times sure have changed!
In 1993, Lew founded "Graphic Consultants, Inc" in Champaign
Illinois. For the first few years, specializing in software
solutions for BBS' (Bulletin Board Systems). Until around 1995, All
computer communication in the open public (government and schools had milnet and
the early internet) was done over dial-up. Long distance companies made a
fortune! In 1995, Graphic Consultants, Inc. moved onto the Internet.
Developing web sites for various companies in the Illinois area and consulted
for PDNT and RB Digital.
In 1998, Lew made a bad choice. It was called GCI Computers, and it was
located in Champaign on Springfield Road. In 1998, computer prices were plummeting,
and Most hardware companies could not move the inventory fast enough to keep up
with the falling prices. Companies like Best Buy, and Wal-mart
offering large rebates took a huge chunk out of the "Mom and Pop"
computer hardware industry. GCI Computers was sold in 2001.
Lew Moved back to Chicago, and restarted his web development business.
There he helped design the website for the POS systems for
Panasonic, and pioneered several 3D rendering image techniques.
In 2004, He sold Graphic Consultants, Inc. and Lew moved to Rantoul. For the last year, he has continued to
consult with several local companies, and has since added local Rantoul company,
Eagle Wings to his portfolios of websites he has designed. With over 14
years of experience, over 100 website developments, and vast skills, Lew
Shepherd is one of the area's leading computer specialists.
